Scrub Your Armpits with Seaweed is a handmade Risograph-printed cookbook in an edition of 120 copies. It features 16 original recipes from Hilary Clare Kennedy (
https://elementalfoods.earth) that draw flavor, texture and delight from a variety of seaweeds harvested by Smithereen Farm in Cobscook Bay, way downeast Maine. The book is also a paean to the pleasures and responsibilities of living by the sea and making use of these incredibly nutritious but ecologically sensitive sea vegetables. Thus one learns a bit about how they are harvested with proportionate care, while also indulging in a (virtual) seaweed bath and Spa Day romance. The book concludes with a reprinting of a serious and seriously readable essay by author and Greenhorns founder-director, Severine von Tscharner Welcome, “A Seaweed Manifesto.”
